Coiling, also known as ring rolling or winding, is a critical forming process in piston ring manufacturing. It occurs after the material (typically specialty cast iron or steel strip) has undergone preliminary processing such as cutting and heat treatment, but before the final steps of finish grinding and gap cutting.

To coil a straight metal strip with a specific cross-sectional shape into a dimensionally precise, high-roundness ring.
